WIC

What is WIC?

The Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC) is a federally-funded health and nutrition program for:

  • Infants and Children age 1 to 5 years (including foster children)
  • Pregnant Women
  • Breastfeeding Mothers (up to 1 year)
  • Postpartum Women (up to 6 months)

Nutrition Benefits

WIC provides food benefits for the purchase of healthy foods with your eWIC card from WIC-authorized vendors – including milk, eggs, bread, cereal, juice, peanut butter, whole grains, fruits and vegetables and much more!

WIC offers many services to support breastfeeding mothers like you. Whether you are unsure about breastfeeding or already a seasoned pro, our dedicated staff of peer counselors, lactation consultants and nutrition professionals are available to provide you with the education, support and supplies that you may need.

Nutrition Education

WIC nutritionists and registered dietitians can help answer questions about your child’s nutrition needs, and connect you to additional resources and services available within our health centers and community.

How do I Qualify for WIC Benefits?

Generally, WIC is available to:

  • Low income parent or guardian who is the sole provider of children under age five who are at nutritional risk and who are at or below 185% of the federal poverty level

Community Health Assessment / Community Health Improvement Plans

Community Health Assessments (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIP) have been created for the three counties we serve.

The community-wide health assessment, which examines the county’s health status, is intended to help shape the collaborative efforts to improve the health of residents.

The community health improvement plan describes how the Health Department and a variety of community partners will work together to improve the health of the population through various projects and programs.

Access each county’s CHA and CHIP below:

What’s an epidemiologist?

Epidemiologists are public health workers who investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury. They seek to reduce the risk and occurrence of negative health outcomes through research, community education and health policy.
